What is documentary/candid photography?

Many of us, myself included, do not like being in front of the camera. But for some the pressure to feel like you are performing, or being placed under a demand creates undue stress and anxiety. However, photography doesn't have to be this way and this is where documentary photography fits in. Candid, documentary or visual story telling photography means photographs are captured as the day unfolds. It is about capturing the rawness, vulnerability, and the joy in its natural state. Personally, I believe these moments are precious, as they can not be captured again. The moment is fleeting..

So how does it work?

Photographic Ninja style!

On the whole I will follow you around and photograph every authentic, natural interaction. I photograph the quiet moments between the big ones; a glance, fingers interlocking, a brush of the hair, a laugh, a tear. I believe this is what truly tells the story, your story.  I quietly observe, and anticipate those unplanned moments. My goal, for you to relive your wedding when you look back at the photos.

Completely candid, or lighthearted prompts

For specific photographs such as these, I can, if wanted, give prompts to elicit movements, connections, interaction and usually natural smiles, laughter, hugs and kisses follow.  So if you hate being in front of the camera, feel uncomfortable being posed and want authentical meaningful photographs- we may be a good fit! You do have the option of going 100% documentary; with no input from me at all and many of my couples and families choose this.

Group photos?

Max 5-10 groups

As mentioned, I am not a posing photographer, however, I am happy to accommodate a few informal group shots as I understand how important these are. I am happy to orchestrate your groups together, and take a photo, but if you are looking for lots of traditional, highly posed shots then I am probably not the photographer for you.

Inclusivity

Photography accessible to all

I am an inclusive photographer, if you want your photographs taken, love having fun then I will shoot it. I am an LGBTQ+ affirming Dorset Photographer and proud to be recommended by the Rebel Love Directory.  

Neurodivergent?
